Swimming pool garden
The brief for this garden was to create a lush backdrop for the newly built swimming pool, renovated barn and pool house. A contemporary feel with a limited palette of colours was requested, with areas for entertaining, a hot tub and some privacy. The site is a suntrap, and was originally a concrete car park and farmyard. Soil improvement was paramount, as was the need to select plants, shrubs and trees that could tolerate heat and sun exposure.
My client was very keen for all year round planting interest, with a view to softening the large amount of surrounding red brick and hard landscaping.

The steel pergola, porcelain tiles, water feature and large terracotta pots were chosen to compliment the build and interior design of the barn, which was produced to a very high specification.
The garden became established very quickly. The inclusion of mature trees give the impression of a less new plot, and provide essential microclimates, helping to bring shade to people and plants in this very sunny area.

A sheltered retreat
The white and acid green planting echoes the surrounding countryside.

Area planted with two large Magnolia Grandiflora standards, young hornbeam hedges and pots of bulbs.

Filled with multi-stemmed amelanchier trees, euphorbia, bulbs and grasses to soften the brickwork and frame this entrance.
